Congrats too Beyonce who just picked up another award. The R&B singer has proven boxoffice clout after her movie "Obsessed" became a hit and now she's picking up more trophys for her music.
Billboard announced hat Beyoncé will be accepting its Woman Of The Year Award at the 2009 Billboard Women In Music Event, taking place on Oct. 2 in New York City.
The honor, given to a female recording artist that has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas, will be awarded to the singer for her accomplishments over the past 12 months.
In the last year, Beyoncé kicked off her world tour "I Am..." in support of her third solo album "I Am...Sasha Fierce," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in November and features the hit singles "If I Were A Boy," "Single Ladies," "Halo," "Ego" and "Sweet Dreams."
The tour also showcased Beyoncé's philanthropic side as she gave 2,500 tickets to families affected by the auto industry crisis in Detroit and joined forces with General Mills Hamburger Helper and Feeding America to deliver 3.5 million meals to local food banks.
"Beyoncé is a multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman Of The Year Award was created to honor," said Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, about Beyoncé, who is the only performer in the 51-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to top the chart for 10 weeks or more with a group and as a solo artist. "She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes."
The Billboard Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business and is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision. The Dream released a new music video for Walking on the Moon featuring Kanye West and directed by Hype Williams. Rapper Fabolous also dropped two music videos from his album Loso's Way. Look for an appearance from The Dream in the video for Throw it In The Bag. Fabolous's new album comes out on June 30th.
UPDATE: Kanye West sent a message to his fans via his blog to let everyone know that the Rihanna Paranoid video was leaked and unfinished. Stay tuned for the official clip.
IT HURTS ME TO SEE THE OLD AND VERY WRONG VERSION OF THE PARANOID VIDEO GET LEAKED ALL OVER THE NET WHILE I WAS ON AN 11 HR FLIGHT AND COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT'S JUST FRUSTRATING WHEN THIS STUFF HAPPENS BECAUSE I REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND SINCE VIDEOS NEVER GET PLAYED ANY WAY YOU MIGHT AS WELL TWEAK THEM AND MAKE THEM AS SPECIAL AS POSSIBLE. THE VERSION THAT GOT LEAKED FROM THE CAMERA PHONE LAST WEEK IS AT LEAST A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE FINAL PRODUCT. THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR YOUR SUPPORT BUT THAT VIDEO WAS NOT UP TO MY STANDARDS. HERE'S SOME SCREEN SHOTS FROM THE REAL VIDEO. [SOURCE]
Beyonce partied the night away before her London concert at the O2 arena.
Miss goody-two-shoes Beyonce Knowles seems to be morphing into her wild and wicked stage persona, Sasha Fierce.
On Sunday we expected the singing sensation to be tucked up in bed
nice and early, in preparation for her first night at London's O2 Arena
yesterday.
Instead, she was out on the lash with hubby Jay-Z, little sister
Solange and - of course - us 3am Girls, on what turned into an
all-night booze bender.
We bumped into Beyonce at trendy Bungalow 8 and heard her gearing up to party hard with Jay and Solange.
Sauntering down the stairs of the exclusive members' club at 1.30am,
27-year-old Beyonce and Solange were chatting about where to go next.
Beyonce, who looked stunning in skinny jeans and a white jacket, told
us: "We're going to that club Movi*da later that we went to with Chris
and Gwyneth, you want to come?" Well, she didn't need to ask twice!
After more cocktails at Bungalow 8, Jay-Z - wearing his Glastonbury
2008 T-shirt - put an arm around his missus and declared it was time to
move on. [MIRROR]
Mariah
Carey and Usher have both announced the titles of their upcoming
albums. Mimi took to twitter to tell her fans the album title. We can't
wait for both albums.
In separate announcements yesterday (May 20), both Mariah Carey and Usher announced the titles of their forthcoming albums.
Carey, who maintains an active presence on Twitter and has over 400,000 followers, made the announcement in a mid-day tweet.
"Bcuz I Love U, I want u to be the first to know the title of my new
album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" Its very personal & dedicated
to u," she wrote. Carey also revealed on Twitter that she is working
with Timbaland on the record.
The album is due in the fall, according to her label representative, but no further official information is yet available.
Usher's announcement was less dramatic. A one sentence press release
distributed in the afternoon read, "Usher has just announced 'Monster'
as the title for upcoming new album to be released fall 2009." [BILLBOARD]
Beyonce was spotted in Barcelona Spain with her hubby rapper Jay-Z.
The bootylicious singer debuted the new music video for her song "Ego"
off her "I Am Sasha Fierce" album. What do you think about Bey's retro
hair black & white look and choreography in the new clip?

The Kanye West Foundation
is holding its second Stay in School benefit concert on June 11 at the
Chicago Theatre in Chicago, IL. The charity's mission is to help kids
to stay in school and combat high dropout rates across the country.
Tickets go on sale on May 21 and are priced from $49.50 to $500 for the

"I have always had the desire to help people and make the world a
better place. I believe that youth are the music for creating a world
filled with harmony," said performer Kayne West in a statement. "To create such a world, however, we must all do our part."
The Kayne West Foundation was founded in 2007 by the late Dr. Donda

announced the foundation's honorary name-change to the Dr. Donda West
Foundation in memory of his mother's philanthropic efforts. This is the
first major event for the foundation since Dr. West's death, and Kanye
has donated his time for the event. [source]

This past Tuesday, May 12, pianist ELEW joined U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for An Evening of Poetry, Music and the Spoken Word in the East Room of the White House.
ELEW performed his blistering rendition of Mr. Brightside for a crowd
that included President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, Spike
Lee and joined the ranks of those legendary musicians asked to perform for the American President, bringing his atavistic piano creations to our nation’s Capitol—the White House itself. Along with American luminaries James Earl Jones, author Michael Chabon, jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding and others, ELEW took to the stage of the East Room in the White House for a star-studded night of music and poetry that showcased the new administration’s earnest commitment to the arts. Congrats to Eric "ELEW" Lewis on becoming part of history! Here is an excerpt from a review of Eric ELEW Lewis and his performance at the White House in the Washington Post. Click here to read the whole article.
Perhaps for the first time ever, the White House jammed and slammed last night.
Poets and playwrights, actors and musicians packed the ornate East Room, delivering cool jazz and glorious spoken-word poetry, sprinkling a bit of hip-hop and a bit of the heroic couplet. And through it all, the president and the first lady watched -- and applauded.
"We're here to celebrate the power of words," President Obama said. Words "help us appreciate beauty and also understand pain. They inspire us to action." He introduced the first lady as his poet.
Michelle Obama told the gathering that the event was a way to open up the White House and invite in diverse voices. "I have wanted to do this from day one," Mrs. Obama said. "The notion of standing in this room and hearing some poetry."
Some called the event the first White House poetry jam in history. Technically, it was not a "poetry slam," which is a competition among poets -- a form of contest that began in the 1980s in Obama's home town of Chicago. A slam pits poet against poet as they stand before a crowd that provides instant, not-always-supportive judgment. That, of course, would not befit proper White House decorum. Desirée Rogers, the White House social secretary, is a huge fan of Lewis, a music industry source said. Rogers saw Lewis perform at HR-57 jazz/blues club on 14th Street NW (the club's name comes from a congressional resolution that designates jazz a "rare and valuable national American treasure"). Rogers saw Lewis again in New York in February at a Donna Karan fashion show, where Lewis played live on the runway. (Lewis can also count Oprah Winfrey among his fans.)
Lewis has received critical praise for his improvisation of jazz, which he calls "rock jazz." But he has also received heated criticism from some camps. He said an invitation to perform at the White House was like a validation for his music.
"I just met the first lady and I gave her a purse, a red clutch," Lewis said in an interview prior to the performance. "She loved it. She said she saw some videos of me where I reached inside the piano and played the strings. She wanted to make sure I do that on [this] performance. It was nice to receive her okay. She told me to rock the house and do my thing on the piano.
"I can't tell you how special it is that Michelle Obama asked me to go inside the piano," said Lewis, who performed "Mr. Brightside." "For her to be that cool and open-minded to request it shows me some people get it, and some people don't.
"The one that got it happens to be the first lady." [WASHINGTON POST]

Eminem confessed to entertaining thoughts of suicide during his recent television interview in the UK.
Speaking to Jonathan Ross during his first interview for British TV, the rapper — whose real name is Marshall Mathers – says he thought about taking his own life while battling drink and drugs.
“I just wasn’t taking care of myself, at times I wanted to just give it up, I was in a dark place,” he said.
The Stan hitmaker also explained why he canceled the European leg of his tour to go into rehab in 2005.
“I wanted to pull back from the spotlight to reassess my whole career,” he said.
“I got sober but it was pretty rough. A couple of years were bad for me.” [SHOWBIZ SPY]
Eminem has had a long standing feud with Mariah Carey and it doesn't seem to be coming to an end any time soon.
In a new song Eminem raps, "Nick Cannon better back the f**k up. I'm not playing, I want her back, you punk. Nick Cannon, you pr**k, I wish you luck with that f**kin' whore."
Also, speaking on his own satellite channel Shade 45, Eminem once told listeners: "We're taking callers right now from any woman who wants to be peed on."
When someone on the show jokingly told him "I think Mariah Carey is on line 12, you wanna talk to her...she wants to get pissed on." Eminem laughed and said, "I already did that."
Yikes! Eminem certainly has some harsh words for Mariah. But he's only doing it because he knows how much it's going to annoy Nick. Whether you love him or hate him, Eminem knows how to push peoples buttons, and if you let him (like Nick is) he'll push those buttons till you're blue in the face. [Hollyscoop]
