JAY-Z GETS UNITED NATIONS HUMANITARIAN AWARD

Congrats to Jay-Z for receiving a humanitarian award from the United Nations. The rapper and business mogul was granted the award at a ceremony in New York by Michael Douglass. Jay-Z's beautiful wife Beyonce was not seen at the event.

Earlier this week Jay-Z’s philanthropic efforts were recognized in a private New York ceremony, as the mogul received a special humanitarian award from the United Nations.

The esteemed distinction was bestowed by actor and host Michael Douglas for the rapper’s extensive work over the past two years raising funds and organizing awareness of the world water crisis.

Now a staple contributor to social issues in his veteran Hip-Hop years, Jay reasons that as a worldwide human family people have to stop looking to others for community responsibility and take initiative to combat societal issues. “If you bring awareness to young people, they’re going to see and want to be involved,” Jay-Z stated. “I’m not a politician; I’m just a regular person with a heart. If you see a problem like that and do nothing about it, there’s something wrong with you.” source

 

 

 

 

JAY-Z TO SELL 40/40 CLUB IN LAS VEGAS?

In December Jay-Z had a Las Vegas party for the opening of his  40/40 club. The club was reported to have failed inspection and some speculated it would not open on time.[SOURCE]

Jay-Z made headlines this year when he announced he was stepping down as President of Def Jam.  His girlfriend R& B singer Beyonce Knowles, her sister Solange Knowles, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Robin Thicke, baseball player Alex 'Arod' Rodriguez, Rev. Al Sharpton, and basketball star LeBron James were just some of the guests in attendance. LeBron James celebrated his birthday in style. Nice birthday cake.

Now there are reports that Jay-Z is going to sell his Las Vegas 40/40 sports bar.

Jay-Z is reportedly set to sell his sports bar chain 40/40.

The '99 Problems' rapper -- who married singer Beyonce in a secret ceremony earlier this year -- is said to be in talks with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation -- who own the renowned Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and its extension The Palazzo, which houses a 40/40 club -- to sell them 50 per cent of his company for $44m.

A source tells the New York Post, "That will make the 40/40 club in Las Vegas the largest sports booking operation. People can gamble both at the tables and on games. The Sands will also have the right to open 40/40 clubs in London and across Europe."

Various celebrities have been known to have big celebrations at the upmarket 40/40 spots, including R&B superstar Chris Brown and NBA All-Star Lebron James, who both celebrated birthdays there.

Jay-Z, real name Shawn Corey Carter, is one of the most financially successful hip hop artists and entrepreneurs in America.

He has sold over 26 million units in the United States and 50 million copies worldwide.

He co-founded the Roc-A-Fella empire, which includes record labels Roc-A-Fella Records and Roc-La-Familia, Roc-A-Fella Films and urban clothing line Rocawear. source

We don't get what he is hiding but rapper Jay-Z was finally seen sporting a wedding band. He hasn't admitted that he is married to Beyonce. Jay this is amazing. You are married to the most beautiful woman on the planet and you hide it. This  whole concept is baffling. UPDATED:

JAY-Z LIVE HEADLINING PERFORMANCE AT GLASTONBURY NOEL GALLAGHER 'WONDERWALL' DISS, 99 PROBLEMS, ENCORE FULL PERFORMANCE VIDEOS

Jay-Z proved the critics like Noel Gallagher wrong when he performed to a crowd of more than 200,000 screaming fans this weekend at the Glastonbury festival. Jay-Z headlined the event and Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher said there was no place for hip hop at the festival.  Hova came to the stage carrying a guitar with his usual swagger and served a diss at the Oasis singer with a cover of his 90's hit song  "Wonderwall".  Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavis said he believed Noel  was able to take the Jay-Z diss in stride.  Watch the show and Jay-Z's amazing performance.

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has claimed that he's not worried Noel Gallagher will be offended after being dissed in Jay-Z's intro tape. However, the organiser warned that last night's (June 28) hip-hop set could be a one-off, as there is only one Jay-Z. With the show beginning with a video montage that sent up the Oasis guitarist's quote that Jay-Z would have "no fucking chance" at Glastonbury, Eavis said he was not worried the former headliner would be upset, because "he can take care of himself". "Jay-Z's intro tape was great, wasn't it?" said Eavis. "Noel can take it, they're tough fellas, aren't they? They used to work on a building site, didn't they? They can handle it. They're good friends of ours though, they've helped us a lot in the past the Gallagher brothers, I'm not going to slag them off. "It's up to Noel if he wants to criticise the Jay-Z thing. Jay-Z triumphed in the end. Everyone knew all the words, as far back as I could see they knew them, it's incredible. Jay-Z proved all the critics wrong including Noel Gallagher from the band Oasis. Noel Gallagher who was a one hit wonder in the states with his song "Wonderwall" had criticized the rapper being added to the bill saying the Glastonbury was a guitar festival and not a place for hip hop. The rapper Jay-Z's position at the top of the Glastonbury bill has notoriously riled the likes of Noel Gallagher of Oasis, who implied it was the sort of thing that would never have happened in his heyday. 'I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance,' guitarist Gallagher complained in April. 'Glastonbury has the tradition of guitar music ... I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong.'

Last night, before an adoring crowd, Jay-Z gave his response. As he took to the legendary Pyramid stage, vast video screens played images of Gallagher's criticism of the rapper, triggering a massive chorus of jeers aimed at the Mancunian guitarist. That was only the beginning. The rapper's opening track was a cover of Wonderwall, arguably Oasis's most famous track. Some sang along, most just chanted the rapper's name. 'How good was that intro?' said Liz Walters, 25. 'He's amazing.' source

Nets investor and music executive Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter will represent the Nets at the NBA Draft Lottery tomorrow, Tuesday, May 20, at the studios of NBA Entertainment in Secaucus, NJ. The Draft Lottery will be televised live on ESPN from 8 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. before Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons. Carter will be one of 14 team representatives to be seated on the stage when NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver announces the winning order of teams participating in the Draft Lottery. The NBA Draft will be held on June 26. "This is very exciting and I hope my nickname ‘Lucky Lefty’ holds up," said Carter. In the Draft Lottery for the first time since 2001, the Nets have a 1.1 percent chance of receiving the first pick of the Draft, and less than a 4 percent chance of securing one of the top 3 selections. Based on their 2007-08 season record, the Nets would likely have the 10th pick of the Draft if they don’t secure a top 3 selection. source

JAY-Z $150 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL WITH LIVE NATION

The Wall Street Journal reports Jay-Z is close to sealing his $150 million dollar deal with Live Nation. Dang! What a week for jigga with two big deals in the works. He's got the Live Nation deal and picked up his marriage license to marry Beyonce.

In what may be the richest in a string of recent deals with superstar musicians, Live Nation Inc. is close to a $150 million, 10-year deal with Jay-Z that would give the concert promoter a financial position in virtually every aspect of the rapper and entrepreneur's career, according to people familiar with the matter.

The contract also calls for Live Nation to make advance payments to Jay-Z -- whose real name is Shawn Carter -- of $10 million for each of three albums, along with $25 million toward concert performances, and other advance payments and promises to cover certain costs. source
