Heath Ledger who died of an accidental overdose in Manhattan last January left his assets to his parents and siblings. According to a story in the NY Daily News the actor left his ex-fiancee Michelle Williams and his daughter Matilda Rose out of his will. His will was filed in Australia in 2003 before he made Brokeback Mountain and had a relationship with his co-star Michelle Williams.
It's among a series of documents filed in Manhattan Surrogate's Court that provide a peek into the fortune of the talented young "A Knight's Tale" and "Monster's Ball" star.
Other documents filed reveal:
Ledger's family spent more than $39,000 on a memorial service for Ledger at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, including $25,000 for his casket and $450 for 40 certified copies of his death certificate.
Ledger had less than $145,000 in New York assets at the time of his death, including $100,000 spread across various bank accounts, a $25,000 Toyota Prius and $20,000 in furniture and fixtures.
The will was filed before he fell in love with actress Michelle Williams on the set of "Brokeback" and had a child with her.
It was unclear if there would be any provisions for Williams and their 2-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.
There's also no hint of the real size of his wealth, including the fancy Brooklyn townhouse he and Williams shared, any property in Australia or cash stuffed in trust funds. source
Heath Ledger's family made a statement on Saturday after details were released that his will was not updated since his relationship with Michelle Williams or the birth of their daughter Matilda Rose in 2005.
"Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family," Heath's father Kim Ledger says in a statement. "They will be taken care of and that's how Heath would want it to be." source
According to MTV News the Federal Drug Enforment Agency is investigating actor Heath Ledger's death.
The actor died from an accidental prescription drug overdose and the DEA is looking into details of how the actor was prescribed Oxycontin and Vicodin that were combined to form a lethal cocktail. The investigation is reportedly focused on two as yet unnamed doctors based in California and Texas.
DEA officials have made it clear that the investigation is not
looking into the circumstances behind Ledger's death and that the
recent determination that he died from an accidental overdose of
prescription medications still stands. In addition to the pills secured
from the two doctors in question, the actor's autopsy also found the
presence of Xanax, Valium, Temazepam (a skeletal muscle relaxant for
patients with severe insomnia) and Doxylamine (also a sleeping aid,
often prescribed to pregnant women). Those results have since been
subpoenaed by the investigators.
Although it remains unclear whether there was any wrongdoing on
the doctors' behalf — whether they both prescribed the Oxycontin and
Vicodin or did it independently of each other — the Daily News
reports that the investigation hopes to uncover the circumstances that
enabled the actor's self-medicating mistake. "It's an ongoing
investigation," a source in law enforcement told the paper. "It's not
clear if there was any wrongdoing." source
A haunting new music Nick Drake video called Black Eyed Dog directed and filmed by Heath Ledger has hit the web. Michelle Williams released her first public statement about her former fiance Heath Ledger who died last week. In a statement released to the AP, Michelle Williams also
asked for privacy during this time, saying, "Please respect our need to
grieve privately. My heart is broken." She continued, "I am the mother
of the most tenderhearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is
the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his
presence inside her that reveals itself every day.
"His family
and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes
steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still," Williams
added. "She will be brought up in the best memories of him."
Entertainment Tonight and The Insider have decided not to air footage of Heath Ledger at a drug party "out of respect for his family." The footage of Heath Ledger's drug binge in 2006 at the Chateu Marmont hotel was supposed to air on ET and the Insider.
UPDATE : Watch Heath Ledger 'Drug Video' - A Current Affair (ACA) 31/1/08
Pagesix.com claims the programs reportedly purchased the tape for $200,000 dollars. A preview of the tape was shown on the East Coast but did not air during the West Coast broadcast after industry pressures were applied by the ID publicity firm who represents A-list actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Ellen Page and Ben Stiller.
The footage, which was taken through a window into a hotel room, showed
Ledger talking and shows at least one guest sniffing a "cocaine-like"
substance off a drug-filled table with a rolled up bill in his hand. At
one stage, Ledger's face is noticeably twitching as he speaks. WATCH THE ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT PREVIEW BELOW.
"I'm going to get some serious shit from my girlfriend," Ledger is heard saying.
Asked by someone why, he says: "We had a baby three months ago."
He goes on to tell the person his daughter's name. Heath states it's "Matilda, Matilda Rose" and then says: "I shouldn't be here at all".
During another point in the video, Ledger talked about his life long marijuana habit.
"I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years," he said, in a slurred voice.
Entertainment Tonight said the "disturbing" video would make headlines around the world.
But in a statement on its website, ET said it was pulling the story.
"Out
of respect for Heath Ledger's family, Entertainment Tonight and The
Insider have decided not to run the Heath Ledger video which has been
circulating in the world media," the statement said.
US Weekly Magazine reports about Heath Ledger's relationship with his girlfriend Michelle Williams and his battle to stay sober.
Heath Ledger’s battle with alcohol and drugs was so
harmful to his relationship with Michelle Williams that she tried to
get him to enter rehab, Us Weekly reports in its latest issue, on newsstands now. For three years, Williams was a firsthand witness to
the gifted actor’s use of alcohol and drugs, including cocaine, heroin
and "a variety of pills," says a Ledger confidant. In March 2006 - just weeks after the couple walked
the Oscars red carpet and when daughter Matilda was only five months
old - Williams drove Ledger to Promises Treatment Center in Malibu,
California, the confidant tells Us Weekly. Ledger refused to check in, instead swaying her with a pledge to clean up. Even after the couple realized "they were in way
over their heads," according to a source, and split in September 2007,
two sources tell Us that Williams demanded Ledger be drug-tested before
his visitations with Matilda.
People Magazine and OK! Magazine are publishing similiar stories about the actor's alleged drug use.
Pagesix.com also cites a NY Post story that Michelle Williams kicked boyfriend Heath Ledger out of their Brooklyn home because of his drug problem.
"Much of the tabloid reporting is inaccurate," Mara Buxbaum tells
CelebTV.com. "This fabricated story of Michelle Williams attempting to
bring Heath Ledger to rehab is just one lie among many. The speculation
is heinous. Let this family grieve privately."
Entertainment Weekly Reports IDPR, which has represented
Ledger, contends that ET "purchased [the two-year old video]
for a large sum of money in the hopes of stirring up a salacious and
exploitive story about Heath, which would win them big ratings on the
first day of sweeps." Reps for ET had no further comment.
Heath’s publicist sent the following letter chastising ET/The Insider to several of the affiliates television competitors:
”Tonight Entertainment Tonight/The Insider are previewing an extremely distasteful segment regarding Heath Ledger. The segment centers around a two-year old video ET purchased for a large sum of money in the hopes of stirring up a salacious and exploitive story about Heath, which would win them big ratings on the first day of sweeps. The two outlets did not even have the courtesy to wait until after Heath’s burial to broadcast this segment. They intend to air the full segment tomorrow.
For the sake of his grieving family and friends, his child, and common decency, we hope to pressure “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider” to do the right thing and pull the spot. This is not journalism, it is sensationalism. It is a shameful exploitation of the lowest kind, to a talented and gentle soul, undeserving of such treatment.” (source)
When contacted by EW.com before ET announced it
would not air the video, ID partner Mara Buxbaum explained via e-mail
that "those who knew Heath know he was a kind-hearted, immensely
talented artist, and a devoted father. He tried to live his life
quietly and with humility. Certain media outlets' attempts to exploit
and profit from his death is shameful and in the poorest of taste. We
implore the media and the public to let this grieving family bury their
son in private and with dignity."
In its statement, ID included the e-mail addresses and office numbers of ET
executive producer Linda Bell Blue and Paramount executive Brad Bessey
in an effort to "pressure" the shows to pull the planned segment. (source)
NEWEST UPDATES ACCORDING TO TMZ NYPD COPS FOUND A $20 DOLLAR ROLLED UP ON "A CERTAIN WAY" WITH A POWDERED SUBSTANCE ON IT. HEATH LEDGER'S AUTOPSY WAS INCONCLUSIVE. THE EXACT CAUSE OF HEATH'S DEATH WILL BE DETERMINED WHEN THE TOXICOLOGY RESULTS COME IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. LAW ENFORCEMENT SOURCES SAY THE $20 BILL WAS CLEAN AND DID NOT CONTAIN DRUG RESIDUE. MORE THAN 5 DRUGS WERE FOUND IN HEATH'S APARTMENT. PARAMEDICS WHO FIRST ATTENDED TO HEATH LEDGER SAID THE SCENE LOOKED NORMAL AND IT DIDN'T APPEAR AS IF ANY ILLICIT DRUG USE OCCURED.
NYPD sources tell TMZ that nearly full pill bottles containing the
anti-anxiety medications Alprazolam (Xanax), Diazepam (Valium) and
Lorazepam (Ativan) were found in the apartment. The sleeping medication
Zoplicone (Lunesta) and the sedative Temazepam (Restoril) -- which is
used by people with "debilitating insomnia" -- were also found.
The New York Daily News provides a timeline and states the masseuse who found Heath Ledger's body called Mary Kate Olsen before calling 911.
"I think he might be dead. I'm calling 911!" masseuse Diane Lee
Wolozin finally shouted at the celebrity twin as the hard-partying
Ledger's corpse lay motionless.
"I already have people coming over," Olsen replied, according to police sources.
1 p.m.: Housekeeper Teresa Solomon, on her regularly
scheduled Tuesday stop at Ledger's home, hears him snoring while she's
changing a bathroom light bulb. She looks into the room.
2:45 p.m.: Wolozin arrives at the $24,000-a-month Broome St. apartment 15 minutes early for a 3p.m. appointment.
3 p.m.: Concerned when Ledger doesn't appear, Wolozin dials
his cell-phone number - and when he doesn't answer, she walks into his
bedroom several minutes later. He's lying facedown, with the covers
pulled up to his shoulders.
3:11 p.m.: Thinking the actor is asleep, Wolozin calls his
name while pulling the massage table from a closet. Wolozin then grabs
Ledger to shake him awake, but his body is cold to the touch.
3:12 p.m.: The frightened masseuse - who knew Olsen and
Ledger - takes Ledger's cell phone and hits the speed dial for Olsen in
California. Olsen instructs the masseuse to hold on, promising to send
her security guards.
3:26 p.m.: When Ledger doesn't respond to a second round of
shaking, Wolozin calls back to tell Olsen she is calling paramedics.
She dials 911, and the operator instructs her to perform CPR.
3:33 p.m.: Emergency workers and the Olsen security arrive
simultaneously. The medical workers move Ledger's body to the floor for
another round of CPR and a shot from a defibrillator. (source)
