There was chaos over the weekend when a stampede occured in Manhattan at the America's Next Top Model auditons. Check out the youtube video which has over 200,000 hits. There are theories that the riot was started because someone yelled "fire".  Here is the video description on youtube.

Pandemonium erupted outside of an "America's Next Top Model" casting call at CW Studios in midtown Saturday when an overheating car triggered a stampede of catwalk-craving cuties. Screaming as they ran for their lives, hundreds of hotties in heels toppled over barricades along W. 55th St. after several people in the crowd started yelling, "There's a bomb!"

Two days after a stampede derailed the New York auditions for America’s Next Top Model, theories continue to fly as to what caused the chaos.

A clutch of the reality TV show’s hopefuls claim the crush, which put two people in hospital, began after an overheated car drove past the queue of aspiring models. One contestant reportedly saw the vehicle and shouted, “there’s a bomb”, causing the thousands of applicants to panic and surge away from the car.

Other reports say the 10,000 women assembled outside a midtown Manhattan hotel trampled one another after someone yelled “fire”.

Accounts from some contestants suggest a fight broke out and that as chaos ensued two men leapt from a car and grabbed at the contestant’s purses adding to the panic.

Model Tyra Banks, who hosts the show, was unable to throw any light on Saturday’s mayhem, which left shoes and clothes strewn across the pavement outside the Park Central New York hotel.

Yesterday, she released a joint statement with executive producer Ken Moke, saying: “We are concerned by the events that occurred Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of the New York City casting call for the next cycle of 'America's Next Top Model.

"At this time, we still don't know all the details of what happened or what triggered the incident. We appreciate the efforts of the NYPD and will assist them in any way possible in this matter," the statement said.

Three people were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and inciting a riot, while two were taken to hospital. [TIMES UK]

The contestant Isis Tsunami was born a male who is now a transgender female.  Watch Isis give an interview on Entertainment Tonight about the upcoming season.

The new season's big secret is out! For the first time, "America's Next Top Model" includes a pre-op transgender model among the show's 14 contestants vying for the top prize. The model, 22-year-old Isis from Maryland, says although she was physically born a male, she was "born in the wrong body" and always felt completely female. In the competition, she said she is prepared to do whatever it takes to win, even if the various modeling challenges force her to face her greatest fears. source

One of the 14 girls who will compete on the new season of America's Next Top Model – which returns to The CW on September 3 – is transgender.

"My cards were dealt differently," Isis, a 22-year-old former receptionist, tells Us Weekly exclusively in its new issue, on newsstands now.

Hailing from Prince George's County, Maryland, Isis identifies herself as "a woman born physically male."

Will she be a role model?

"I like to help people, but I'm here to follow my dreams," she tells Us.

The inclusion of Isis is being hailed by GLAAD president Neil Giuliano as "an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television.

"We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible," Giuliano said. source

Whitney Thompson, a contestant from Atlantic Beach, has won America's Next Top Model. The 20 year old stole the hearts of the judges with her onramp antics, class and style to take the top prize of the competition. As a result the beauty will bag a $100,000 contract with cosmetics brand Covergirl and a contract with Elite Model Management. The girl's parents were all excited about her wining the competition. Her mother said, "I'm so excited for her. It's wonderful. It's an answer to a dream for her. All that hard work -- I'm so proud of her. She's a great girl really great," said Whitney's mother, Jeanine Thompson.

Her father too was all praises for his daughter. "The doors will open for her, and I think everyone else will get to see what beautiful person she if from the inside out. She's really just an incredible young lady, and she's a great role model for other young people. She rocks," he said. source
