We are sad to say that August 25th is the anniversary of Aaliyah's tragic death in a plane crash. We remember and celebrate the beauty, talent and short life of an angel who left us too soon. We miss you. Watch the anniversary tribute video and footage from the morning of her death. R.I.P Aaliyah.
A pilot had cocaine and alcohol in his system when the plane he was flying crashed in the Bahamas, killing nine people including singer and actress Aaliyah, a doctor testified during a coroner's inquest.
Pilot Luis Antonio Morales had cocaine in his urine and traces of alcohol in his stomach at the time of the 2001 crash, pathologist Dr. Giovander Raju testified Tuesday.
The autopsy results were already made public earlier this year, and Raju was not required to testify on whether the findings may have contributed to the crash.
Investigators also have said they believe the twin-engine Cessna 402B was 700 pounds overloaded when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas en route to Florida on Aug. 25, 2001.
Two taxi drivers who dropped the group off at Abaco's airport testified Tuesday that they were concerned about the amount of equipment they had with them.
Annie Russell and Louise McIntosh had driven Aaliyah around while shooting the video "Rock the Boat," which the 22-year-old singer had just finished at the time of her death. The two said they were concerned the amount of sound and video equipment would be too much. source
Aaliyah graces the June 2008 issue of Fader magazine’s Annual Icon Issue. The beautiful singer and actress Aaliyah was tragically killed in a 2001 plane crash after a Hype Williams directed music video shoot in the Bahamas. It was later uncovered that the pilot of the plane had a prior cocaine arrest and the airplane was overloaded. source
Honestly, we never really liked her final music video for the song "Rock The Boat" and felt it could have been shot on a sound stage with blue/green screen in the states but it wasn't worth her dying for the disappointing end result. We do enjoy Aaliyah's "More Than a Woman" music video and find it to have better special effects and visuals while showcasing Aaliyah's dancing skills.
The 22-year-old singer and actress, born Aaliyah Haughton, was
one of nine people aboard a twin-engine plane that crashed seconds
after taking off from the Bahamas, according to Grand Bahama police
superintendent Basil Rahming. All nine died.
Aaliyah was in the Bahamas shooting a video, Minister of Tourism Tommy Turnquest told the Associated Press.
She died instantly when the plane, a Cessna 402B, exploded on
impact just 200 feet beyond the end of a runway at Marsh Harbour
International Airport on Abaco Island at 6:45 p.m., Rahming said. The
craft, which was bound for Opa-Locka Airport, just northwest of Miami,
apparently suffered engine failure upon liftoff, he said. source

AALIYAH MISS YOU TRIBUTE MUSIC VIDEO
Missy Elliott
“We was gonna save the world. We was gonna change music every chance we got. We was gonna always be family. Forever.”
Mark Ronson
“If it wasn’t for Aaliyah being the face and voice of [Missy Elliott and Timbaland’s] sound they might have never got to where they did. They were presenting their sort of brilliant but challenging breakthrough music through this beautiful young girl who could sing it perfectly.”
Kidada Jones
“I think about her all the time…Anytime she’s brought up or her music comes on the radio, it’s sweet, but it definitely sounds like she found a niche before it was here. If you listen to her music it’s so relevant today, but we had it so long ago.”
Damon Dash
“She was already a fashion icon, she was getting into movies, she had already planted that seed. If she was alive today she would be so relevant. I see little bits of her everywhere I look, in a lot of artists.”
Jomo Hankerson
“I think a lot of that mysteriousness they talk about was just what she was. She seemed like she came here already grown up, from the beginning.”
