UPDATE : A Malawi woman is protesting Madonna's adoption and accusing Madge of trying to steal her granddaughter. Read more...
Madonna has arrived in Malawi to adopt another child. A charity is urging the Material Girl to "think twice" before she adopts another African baby and moves the child into the celebrity spotlight. Madonna's adoption of her 3 year old son David was also met with resistance. This will actually be Madonna's 2nd adoption since her divorce from her hubby director Guy Ritchie. Madonna hooked up with a 22 year old Brazilian boytoy/model named Jesus Luz and moved him into her home. The Daily Star claims that Madonna dumped Jesus after he had a fling with an underwear model. To make matters worse an unflattering photoshop pic showing 50 year old Madonna looking extremely old is going viral on the internet.
Guy Ritchie’s ex-wife is also concerned that their relationship could
hit her chances of adopting a second child.
Madonna said: “Many people, especially our Malawian friends, say that
David should have a Malawian brother or sister.
It’s something I
have been considering, but would only do if I had the support of the
Malawian people and government.”
And she fears she won’t have either if she has another adopted son
hanging on her coat-tails in the shape of Jesus.
Her decision to end the relationship was finally made after Luciana and
Jesus spent a romantic weekend together in Brazil. [DAILY STAR]
Madonna shouldn't open her heart to another adoption, says a British children's charity.
"You cannot literally take every poor child who may only have one parent living, or no parent living, across the world and transport them all into Kensington in London," said Save the Children UK's Dominic Nutt in an interview with the BBC's Newshour program.
The Material Mom is hoping to adopt a second child from Malawi and is expected to attend a procedural hearing in the country's High Court on Monday.
Last week it was revealed that recently divorced 50-year-old popstar filed papers to bring home a 3-year-old orphaned girl named Mercy James whose parents have both died, according to Reuters.
Nutt believes that, ideally, orphans should be cared for by their extended family or "in their own environment by their own community."
"The thing to do is to support the community, to support local agencies and charities who can look after the child so that the child is at least cared for in their community," he said.[BBC]
If Madonna gets a judicial OK, her son David will be getting a little sister.
A Malawi court has scheduled a hearing for Monday to take up the Material Mama's petition to add an orphaned girl to the brood.
The hearing was announced a day after officials in the African nation confirmed the 50-year-old entertainer was seeking a second adoption.
Also on Friday, the identity of the 4-year-old girl was confirmed.
"Her name is Mercy James from Mchinji Home of Hope orphanage. She has no father and mother—they both died. We finished the assessment yesterday in readiness for the courts next week," a spokesman for the Ministry of Gender and Child Development told Reuters.
If all goes according to plan, Mercy will join 12-year-old Lourdes (Madonna's daughter with former flame Carlos Leon), 9-year-old Rocco (her biological son with Guy Ritchie) and 3-year-old David Banda, whom she and her filmmaker ex-hubby adopted two-and-a-half years ago after traveling to Malawi to help build an orphanage there.
Mercy hails from the same orphanage.
The "Causing a Commotion" singer is expected to arrive in Malawi with David sometime over the weekend and will reportedly take the boy to meet his biological father, Yohane Banda, while they're visiting.
Her publicist has declined to comment on the latest adoption news, but Madonna is hoping to avoid the controversy that erupted last time around, when various child advocacy groups accused her of using her superstar status to evade the nation's adoption laws.
Now a newly minted single mom with an extremely busy touring schedule, the "Sticky and Sweet" purveyor will be required to justify her filing before the court. [E! ONLINE]
