Diane Sawyer interviewed, Ashley Dupree, the hooker of disgraced NY Governor Eliot Spitzer on a special edition of 20/20.
Ashley Dupre wore a conservative outfit during the chat and did her best not to look like the Girls Gone Wild hooker she is in real life. It's pretty interesting that the same hooker who is cashing in on her sex scandalous 15 minutes of fame is now saying "don't call me a prostitute."
Ashley Alexandra Dupre now prefers to say she is a former "escort" who left the intimate world of prostitution behind for a shot at a music career. People wouldn't even be talking to Ashley if her famous john wasn't uncovered as client #9 Eliot Spitzer.
In a way, her story doesn't sound that dramatically different from anyone else's - with, of course, a couple of hugely dramatic differences.
Twenty-two years old and financially strapped - or so Ashley Dupré, now 23, tells Diane Sawyer on tomorrow's edition of "20/20" - she decided to go to work and earn some cash to pay for a nice Manhattan apartment and crushing credit card debt.
Four weeks later came a liaison in Washington, D.C., that would lead to one of the most sensational political scandals in New York history.
She tells Sawyer she didn't know the man she met at the Mayflower Hotel, although "He looked familiar," she said. "But I was 22 years old. ... I wasn't reading the papers. I was so involved in my life and I was so selfish and caught up in my life and I didn't know who he was. And I was whoever they wanted me to be, and he was whoever he wanted to be." source
The young woman at the center of the historic downfall of the governor of New York is finally speaking out.
Ashley Dupré, the 23-year-old former escort who was the target of intense media scrutiny in the days after Gov. Eliot Spitzer's resignation from public office, has stepped forward to give her first television interview. Dupré told ABC News' Diane Sawyer that she does not feel responsible for Spitzer's downfall.
"If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else," she said. "I was doing my job. I don't feel that I brought him down." source
