The small island of Barbados has caught Rihanna fever after the singer flew home to celebrate her birthday. Fresh from her win at the Grammy awards the 20-year-old was met by hundreds of cheering fans when she landed.

She was also greeted at the airport by Prime Minister David Thompson and other island officials who officially declared the day ‘Rihanna’ day - a new national holiday.
The pop sensation then watched a cultural presentation by school children from two schools that the singer herself used to attend - Charles F. Broome Memorial and Combermere. She also received gifts including a memorial school yearbook. After giving a speech about how lovely it was to be home she stepped outside to greet her fans - many of whom were clutching yellow umbrellas, inspired by the singer’s chart breaking tune. Rihanna then headed off to continue the celebrations at a concert that had been prepared in her honour.
The Prime Minister further revealed that Rihanna will own a piece of the rock , stating that she had been given land in the upscale Apes Hill project that has lots in St. James and St. Thomas. Several sponsors all contributed gifts to the star, including a Land Rover from Warrens Motors and a diamond bracelet from Colombian Emeralds.
This was followed by a rendition of Happy Birthday by saxophonist Arturo Tappin, while Rihanna and Chris Brown then cut a blue and white cake, recognizing her birthday, which was on Wednesday.
For her part, the young singer seemed almost moved to tears by the tributes given over the night and said, "I really don't know what to say. I am so grateful and I have never been more proud to be Bajan!
First of all I want to thank all of you for coming out and supporting me tonight and my career from day one." She then repeated the sentiments given in her now famous Grammy award winning speech saying Barbados we got one and I love you! source Congrats Riri!
