Former South Carolina middle school teacher Allenna Ward (age 24) was
sentenced on Tuesday (Feb.19) to six years in prison for having sexual encounters with five African-American teenage
boys between the ages of 14 and 15. Authorities said that Ward met the young African-American boys at the school where she taught, a motel, a park and behind a restaurant.
Police began investigating Ward last year after school
officials found a note believed to have been written by her to one of the
boys. Some of the victims were students at middle school where she taught until she was fired about a year ago.
Ward pleaded guilty in September to three
counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three lewd
acts on a minor. She was sentenced to six years in prison as opposed to the more than 60 years she was originally sentenced to. Some communities leaders are outraged by her sentence and citing racism because Allena Ward was White and her victims were Black. [SOURCE]
