PEOPLE Magazine reports Oscar nominated actor Eddie Murphy and his fiancee film producer Tracey Edmonds married New Year's Day on the island of Bora Bora. Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds got married along with family and friends an intimate ceremony on a private island off of Bora Bora in French Polynesia in front of 25 friends and family. But now legal experts are questioning the validity of their nuptials based on the country's marriage laws.
According to specialist, Malgras Benoit, couples wishing to marry on the islands must live near the wedding spot for at least 30 days for it to be valid. He said: “A marriage on the beach would be like… a fake marriage. It’s not a real marriage, if it is on the beach with only a local priest.”“I think it was just an exotic, artistic ‘marriage.” “You need to have residence for at least 30 days – one month in the island of Bora Bora for instance – and this is not the case,” he added. The lawyer, however, did say there was an exception to the 30 day rule - but if only if the ceremony takes place in the town hall in front of the mayor.[SOURCE]
