US Magazine reports that things started over a visitation dispute between Britney and her ex-husband Kevin Federline. Britney showed up earlier in the day to a custody deposition that was later postponed. The day before, Sorrell Trope, her third high powered attorney since September quit. He filed papers asking the court permission to be 'relieved from representing' the troubled popstar. The motion stated: “There has been a breakdown in communications" between his firm and Spears "making further representation of her interests impossible.”
Britney Spears who lost shared custody of her sons in October didn't seem to be handling all this very well and she snapped.
Kevin Federline's bodyguard arrived last night at about 7 pm to pick up the kids Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James,1, but Britney refused to hand them over. After about ninety minutes of arguing with his bodyguard and refusing to turn over the kids the police arrived. [SOURCE] TMZ was covering the story and gave the following update:
TMZ has confirmed that the LAPD has been called to Britney Spears' house in Beverly Hills for what we're being told is a "family custody dispute."
LAPD tells us the call came in around 8:00 PM PT this evening, but they would not tell us who made the call or what the specific problem was. Officers, we're told, are still on scene.
Spears, who was nearly two hours late for today's scheduled deposition in her custody case, was reportedly scheduled to have her sons tonight until 7:00 PM.
We're told Britney is being taken to a local hospital on a "medical hold" -- essentially a mental evaluation. Cops found her earlier this evening at her home under the influence of an "unknown substance." [SOURCE]

This isn't over! The New Year has only just begun. Look how Britney Spears is smiling in the picture. This is some serious sh*t and the poor thing is laughing. Cops found her earlier this
evening at her home under the influence of an "unknown substance. Yeah, they're not kidding. Britney needs some serious help. Her 16 year-old pregnant sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, has her own problems and did not need to be there. Jamie Lynn's show 'Zoey 101' was just cancelled by Nickelodeon due to network concerns that the issues surrounding her pregnancy could send the wrong message.[SOURCE]
This situation is far from a laughing matter. Think about Britney's kids. Check out TMZ.com's coverage of the latest Britney Spears incident below.
UPDATE: It has now emerged that she is reportedly under a so-called “5150 hold” at a Los Angeles hospital - meaning staff believe there’s evidence she is a danger to herself or others. The California order allows a clinician or officer to involuntarily confine a person, and requires signs of mental disorder and/or grave disability.
According to gossip website TMZ.com, it could mean it is thought she poses a danger to her children.A hospital source said that Spears, 26, has been designated a “special needs” patient, meaning “they have either overdosed or tried to commit suicide. So we go stay with these patients and monitor them constantly. We watch them so they don’t hurt themselves and watch the people who come visit them to make sure they don’t pass anything to them.” It's reported that Britney will be on "lockdown" remaining under observation and suicide watch for a minimum of 14 days.[Source]
