The Boy Genius Report is reporting that rapper Jay-Z may be heading a new record label with Steve Jobs at Apple. People have been speculating about this move for months. If this is true then the official announcement will be made at the MacWorld Conference & Expo. Here's an excerpt from TBGR
This one’s been floating around like a hot air balloon, but we’ve just about confirmed it. For those that don’t know, Jay-Z left Def Jam as President last month, and everyone’s been talking about where he’s heading. While this might be one of his many other venutures, we just heard that Jay-Z is launching a record label with Apple. No, Beyonce will not be formally attached. This is from a high-up person attached to Jay (no, not who you’re thinking), and it’s said to be a go! Jay is supposedly totally into the business model, and really wants this to happen. [SOURCE]

Kanye West sent the following message to his fans on his blog yesterday. His last blog post was on November 10 before his mother, Dr. Donda West, tragically passed away.

When I was in Europe I would play this game for hours and hours... it helped me zone out. Everybody would get envolved... Derrick Dudley (Common's manager) and Consequence were the best other than me... I beat Lexi... Don C beat Jay... Tony Williams beat Common... but every now and then people would speak of this legendary connect 4 champion........... BEYONCE!!! I had 2 play her!...so last night at Jay's new 40/40 club in Las Vegas (which is sidebar, crazy big w/ 24krt gold flooring, Black Jack tables, $500 slot machines,the biggest projection screen in the universe and the best turkey burgers I've ever had in my life) she beat me 9 times in a row! (and I didn't even spaz lol) here's a photo of the only game I won!

R&B superstar R.KELLY has been ordered to cancel a Virginia concert scheduled to take place a day before his January 08 hearing at a Chicago, Illinois, court. The Bump N' Grind singer is due to stand trial for 14 child pornography charges in May 08, but has to attend another hearing on the case on 14 January. And Judge Vincent Gaughan is taking no chances with R. Kelly after he failed to turn up to court earlier this month - he's insisted the star postpones his 13 January gig at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum to ensure there will be no problems getting to court on time.
TRACEY EDMONDS & EDDIE MURPHY'S TAHITIAN WEDDING
OK! Magazine reports Oscar nominated actor Eddie Murphy and his fiancee producer Tracey Edmonds are getting married today in Tahiti. The couple along with family and friends will wed in an intimate ceremony.
Eddie, 46, and Tracey, a 40-year-old movie producer, got engaged in July, just weeks after her divorce from then-husband, singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Tracey has two sons with Babyface, while Eddie is the father of five — four with his ex-wife Nicole, whom he divorced in 2006, and a daughter, Angel Iris, with ex-girlfriend Spice Girl Melanie Brown.[SOURCE]

RAPPER NATE DOGG RECOVERING FROM A STROKE
Hip-hop rap star NATE DOGG has been hospitalised after suffering a stroke over the holidays.
The Next Episode singer was admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital in California earlier this month following the cerebrovascular accident at his home on 20 December, reports MediaTakeOut.com. The 38-year-old - real name Nathaniel Hale - is currently recovering at the medical centre and is likely to remain there over New Year. {SOURCE]

Grammy winning rapper JAY-Z aka Shawn Carter announced on Monday that he would not be renewing his contract as president of the Universal Music Group Def Jam label. Hip-hopJay-Z has been president of the company for three years. According to the NY Times it appears that may have Jay-Z resigned over money.
Jay-Z’s exit from the executive role comes after Universal, a division of Vivendi,
declined to renew the contract under more lucrative terms he sought,
according to people briefed on the talks, who requested anonymity
because the negotiations were confidential. Under the deal that is
expiring, Universal was to pay Jay-Z in the range of $10 million over
the course of the contract, if he hit certain financial targets.
He released a statement saying that he was going to continue making music with Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam records. He also said he was looking forward to "taking on new challenges."
"Now it's time for me to take on new challenges," he said in a
statement. "I am pleased to have had the opportunity to build upon the
Def Jam legacy."
"Jay made it clear to us that he feels the time has come to take on
different challenges in his life. While we regret his decision to move
on, we certainly respect it," said Antonio 'L.A.' Reid," chairman of

Jay-Z will continue working on his various business including the 40/40 nightclubs according to a source. There are also rumors about Jay-Z's to embark on a lucrative business venture with a concert company.
His next move is unclear, though there has been speculation that he might strike a deal with the concert giant Live Nation, which has been seeking stakes in artists’ various business lines beyond concerts.
Jay-Z is credited with discovering hip hop superstar Kanye West and signing multiplatinum artists like Rihanna and Ne-Yo.
ALLHIPHOP.COM reports that rapper YUNG JOC has been arrested after allegedly attempting to pass through Ohio airport security with a fully loaded handgun. The Grammy nominated star tried to get the weapon through a security checkpoint at Ohio's Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Sunday according to police. The hip-hop star, real name Jasiel Robinson, is currently being held at Cuyahoga County Jail under firearms charges, but he may also face charges under the Air Piracy Act. Yung Joc is featured on T-Pain's single " Buy You A Drank" and also "released Coffee Shop" from his second hit album Hustlenomics this year. Yung Joc is an artist on Sean "P.Diddy" Comb's Bad Boy South label an imprint of Bad Boy Entertainment.

We are sad to report that representatives at LiL Mama's label JIVE Records have confirmed the passing of the rapper's mother from colon cancer. The rapper was on tour with Chris Brown when she received the news of her mother's passing. BET.COM reports the following.
Teenager rapper Lil Mama’s label, Jive Records, confirms that her mother has died. Though official announcements from her or her representatives have yet to be released, reports say that Tyra Kirkland was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003. Lil Mama (born Niatia Jessica Kirkland) was in Atlanta, GA preparing for the next show with labelmate Chris Brown’s Up Close & Personal Tour when she was told. She has left the tour to be with her family in NYC.

Chad Butler aka
Pimp C will be remembered with a public memorial service Thursday in his hometown of Port Arthur, Texas. Pimp C, who made up the hip-hop duo Underground Kingz with his partner Bun B, was found dead Tuesday in his Los Angeles hotel room. He was 33 years old. The official cause of death is still not known and he is said to have apparently died in bed from natural causes. The service, which is open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m. at the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center. He will also be buried in the city, but only family and close friends will be allowed at the burial.
Manager Rick Martin, who identified the body of his client and dear friend Pimp C offered this statement regarding the tragic loss:
"I saw the loss of a man that was not only a client, but a very dear friend at a time when he had the most to live for. He was my best friend and I will always love him. Chad's tragic passing leaves behind mourners the world over, including his mother, wife and children whom Chad loved more than anything. An official cause of death has yet to be determined.
I was so very proud of Chad and the growth he has shown since his release from prison; as an artist and business man and as a person. As one half of the legendary Texas group UGK, Chad was finally seeing the results of the years of love and labor that he and Bun B have put in over the years, culminating in the tremendous success of their album, Underground Kingz. Chad was set to soar with not only a new solo deal on Jive Records, but a lucrative publishing deal, a new satellite radio show, several group projects and a national cologne endorsement. Chad had everything to live for, making his unexpected passing a travesty. Right now, my number one concern is the well being and livelihood of his family who are the ones most deeply affected by this loss.
All efforts will be made to ensure that they are properly cared for in this tragic time and beyond. As Chad's friend, manager, and on behalf of his family and those closest to him, we ask that you, the press keep reports of his passing to tributes to his amazing contributions as an artist and wait for the facts surrounding his death to come to light. Please let us all remember Pimp C as the kind and warmhearted man and rap music pioneer that he was."

Steve Rifkind Officially Secures Loud Name, Plans Return With The Wu - Loud Records is Back
Steven Rifkind, CEO of SRC Records (Street Records Corporation) and former Loud CEO, returns with Wu-Tang for a new album. Hip-Hop pioneer talks about his success with Akon and the recent album "Konvicted." Akon had one of the most successful spans any entertainer has ever had with eleven songs in the Billboard Hot 100.

Steve Rifkind, founder of SRC Records, has officially secured the Loud name for a second time, 15 years after the label was originally launched.
Although it's not news that Rifkind planned to resurrect the label that was shut down in 2002 and then went on to become a part of Sony BMG, it was only recently that he actually secured the name once again.
In an exclusive statement given to BallerStatus.com, the music executive expressed his excitement saying he was "extremely happy" that Loud Records is back.
Just how Loud entered the game in 1993 with the Wu-Tang Clan, they plan on repeating history once again.
"It's full circle for all of us," Rifkind told BallerStatus.com. "We came in together and now we are going to do it for a second time. 36 Chambers came out in '93, [this time, they're going to get a whole new audience."
The Wu-Tang Clan's debut album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was Loud Records' first release.
But, the label went on to release successful albums from Big Pun, Mobb Deep, Tha Alkaholiks, Lil Flip and Xzibit before closing its doors in 2002.
Marking its return will be the Wu, with a new album in the works titled 8 Diagrams, their first album as a group since 2001's Iron Flag.
Due to recent news of the group getting clearance for the first ever Beatles sample (see "Wu-Tang Clan Gets Clearance For First Ever Beatles Sample, Album Pushed Back"), Loud has pushed back the album's release from November 13 to December 4.
Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music artist Consequence recruited G-Unit's Whoo Kid for the fifth chapter of his mixtape The Cons Vol.5 "Refuse To Die". The project is jam-packed with a solid tracklist, setting if off with the remix of Consequence's single "Don't Forget Em", produced by and featuring Kanye himself. This is Consequence's first release since dropping his debut album Don't Quit Your Day Job earlier this year. Cons & Whoo Kid drop just in time to keep the fans hungry until Cons' 2nd album coming in 2008, titled You Win Some, You Lose Some.
Cons also has been putting in work on the video side, reuniting with A Tribe Called Quest member Ali Shaheed Muhammad and neighbor the Legendary D.M.C. of Run D.M.C. for his video "Uncle Rahiem." In the video, DMC plays Consequence's Uncle Rahiem and illustrates a hectic scenario between family and morality. The New York Native returned to his stomping ground in Jamaica Queens to film the street anthem "Q.U.E. Another E.N.S." with Director Rik Cordero of Three21 Films, who recently directed Jay Z's trailer for "Black Magic". The video is compiled with cameos from Q-Tip, Prodigy, Large Professor and other surprise special guests representing the Queens borough.
"This is the first-ever G-Unit/G.O.O.D. Music collaboration, so it should be historic. This is what I offer to the game and if you f*** with it, you f*** with it. Take away the gear and the jewels, it's just music. I've always tried to make music that relates to the relatable. Like, I've been in this situation because that's what made me write it… That's what I'm trying to bring to the table…This is the kind of hip-hop that everybody grew up on," declared Consequence.
Another sure-fire banger featured on The Cons Volume 5 is "Express Yourself 08." Coming from DJ Statik Selektah's forthcoming album, the song features Talib Kweli and Termanology with righteous lyrics that encapsulates the issues in the United States and brings them to the light in a strong, but positive approach. The video for "Express Yourself 08" is also scheduled to shoot later this month.
The Cons Vol. 5 also features artists Nas, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Collie Buddz, Musiq Soulchild and the Legendary Patti Labelle. A Cons DVD entitled "On The Job Training" is also scheduled to hit retailers soon, with all the videos from Don't Quit Your Day Job, as well as Refuse To Die.
